May 18, 2011, Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Southern Tide, Greenville, S.C.-based manufacturer of a rapidly growing lifestyle brand of apparel, today announced that the company will be the official sponsor of Team Southern Tide, a sailing crew participating in the 2011 Charleston Bermuda Race, beginning Saturday, May 21, 2011.

Southern Tide will sponsor the 14-person crew aboard the "Spirit of Minerva" in the sailing race from Charleston, S.C. to Bermuda. Evolution Sails of Canada will provide the Southern Tide spinnaker sail for the "Spirit on Minerva." The Charleston Bermuda Race is a biennial 777-mile sailing race that begins in Charleston, S.C. and ends in Bermuda. Eleven yachts, ranging in sizes from 40-to-65-feet will set sail on the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean for a six-day sailing competition.

Festivities for the Charleston Bermuda Race begin Thursday, May 19 with a Bon Voyage Party at 6:30 p.m. at the Rice Mill Building in Charleston, S.C. The start of the race begins Saturday, May 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Charleston City Marina with the sounding of the official warning signal for a First Class Start.

Steven Colbert, Charleston native and host of his own show on Comedy Central network will serve as honorary captain aboard "The Audi", whose team will also sport Southern Tide apparel.
